Political Compulsions behind the propsed quota

So why did Mr. Arjun Singh , the Minister of Human Resource play his trump card of reserving seats for the OBC's ? And that too, with perfect timing. For the uninitiated, the ageing honourable minister was recently advised to take rest..i.e retire from active politics by the Sonia Gandhi led Congress in one of the speeches by the PM, and it was almost sure that he was to be pushed up to the rank of a state governer , so that someone else could be handed over this sought after position. With out his knowledge, the Congress started "modernizing" the MHRD and taking control of the Sam Petroda led Knowledge Commission, for higher political motives. All this was being done to slowly displace Arjun Singh from his rank.

But Mr.Arjun Singh striked back and has aimed two birds with the same stone, this move serves as a two-edged sword. Firstly, it has given the Congress a solid vote bank , and therefore shut the mouths of those who wished to sideline him. Therefore now, if Congress asks him to step down , it will prove that it itself is against the bill passed by the MHRD, which would be fatal. At the same time it will face severe criticism by the student community. Today, the Election Commission has slapped a notice to the MHRD, asking why , at this time , when several states are about to go for elections has this rule been passed.

Mr.Singh had simply brushed aside media by stating that they were only implementing a constitutional rule and that on the order of the PM. He has since taken leave on account of poor health.

This is the most disgusting act which can be expected from a 75+ old man , who unwilling to forego his petty political ambitions and let the entire country suffer for him.He has shown no mercy for the meritorious students of this country and has very succesfully shown that when it come s to being unscruplous and immoral, the politician community has no equals. This is a national shame Mr.Arjun Singh...for we and the forthcoming generations shall pay out for your 'Political Ambitions'

49.5% resrvations..wow isnt tat awesome..mr arjun singh should b thanked n honoured for this job..our indian constitutn had made this amendmt in 1950's for the upliftment of backward class..this doesnt mean..tat this amendmt is for infinity..times hav changed...and if our govt is tryin to implement the outdated rule of 1950's in '06..then one can imagine...the picture of "brand india"..its like our country's devlopemt will b back to square1...already we hav been ruled by britishers for no. of yrs...and our politicians r jus followin their footstpes..dividin india..on soo called quota bases.india has sufferd enough of brain drain and foreign exghange outflow..further reservatns, means drain of brains and moolah both...if this continues, day wil come wen people like us ie. general category wil b in minority.its high time..politicians stop buttin their nose in each and every matters and especially educational ones...all these politicians r 70+..they hav already lived their life, atleast dont screw up our lives n career..its high time we all need to speak up..stayin a mute spectator wont help..we the people of india need to come togeter n make realise.. tat govt is not politicians...its WE THE PEOPLE, who make them our represntatives..and not for their personal benefits..they r answerable to all of us..whether its u or me...so they cant work as per their whims and fancies...people.its high time, v make the indian govt. listen n make them realise their flaws...if not now, there will many more cases of self immolation n protest similar to tat of rajiv goswami of '89

yeah i do agree wid u ankur but i see it from a diff point of view also...with elections of several states round the corner i think it's nothing but another political stunt to attract the votebank as the congress party is particularly weak in these areas...

The reservation system has been in place for close to 60 years now. When is someone in the government finally going to get the brains to say "Reservation doesn't work, lets get rid of it." Seems like every few years the enternal cesspool that constitutes our government finds new ways to screw us, the students as well as citizens of India. I am someone who would personally "BENEFIT" from the so called new quota for OBC's along with the exsisting reservations for SC/ST, but then why should i voice my opposition to such a move. Well firstly the governments that ruled India for so many years have had nothing to do with the interests of the minorities and the socially and educationally backward communites, this reservation system is just a method for them to garner votes from the minorities and that is exactly what happened in the years before, we can't blame any one party of being populist when they come with sops for some particular sections of the society.
